The Doctor of Philosophy in Education prepares candidates to undertake advanced research with the potential to influence teaching, policy and educational practice. Candidates identify a significant research problem, engage critically with scholarship, apply appropriate qualitative or quantitative methods, and produce an original doctoral thesis. The programme supports future careers in academia, research, policy

Entry Requirements

Check Your Eligibility
  • A Master’s degree at MQF Level 7 or equivalent, as accepted by the Senate.
  • There is normally no direct entry from Bachelor’s degree level. Conversion from a
    Master’s by research is subject to the prescribed candidature period, evidence of
    doctoral-level research capability and Senate approval.
  • Exceptional direct admission from MQF Level 6 is subject to first-class standing
    or CGPA of at least 3.67, rigorous internal assessment, satisfactory progress and
    Senate approval.
  • International students: IELTS 5.0, MUET Band 3.5 or equivalent, subject to the
    latest Senate requirement.
